Original A-bomb Drawings by Survivors Replaced in the Permanent Exhibition

September 1, 2023

Original drawings created by atomic-bomb survivors based on their memories of that time (A-bomb Drawings by Survivors) are displayed in the Permanent Exhibition.

To prevent the deterioration of the drawings and to preserve them on a long-term basis, we have replaced the six drawings on display.

The replacement of the drawings is set to be conducted regularly.

1 Period

From Fri. September 1, 2023 to Mon. February 12, 2024

2 Location

The “Emotion Carried by the Brush” section in the Permanent Exhibition

3 Contents

Six pieces of drawing: each drawing depicts the live and death of a person/people that the creator could never forget.

[Reference]

The collection of the A-bomb Drawings by Survivors began in 1974 when an atomic-bomb survivor brought a single drawing depicting his experience to the NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Station. Currently, roughly 5,000 drawings are housed in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
