Some Newly Obtained Photos from Overseas Entered into the Peace Database

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum has been collecting and organizing materials related to the atomic bombing, including A-bombed artifacts, mementoes, and photographs.
Among the photos which were newly acquired from overseas, some have just been entered into the Peace Database.

The photos were taken by the United States Strategic Bombing Survey which was established to study of the effects of the aerial attacks by the US Army. The survey team conducted a survey during October and November in 1945 and closely took photos of the effects of the atomic bombing against Hiroshima.
From 2009 to 2012, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum had acquired high-definition digital images from the National Archives. After a careful examination of those photos, the ones unveiled for the first time were entered into the Peace Database.

From September 25 through October 5, 2017, the Hiroshima Peace Memoriam Museum conducted some research at the following institutions in the United States for the first time - the National Academy of Sciences Archives, the Library of Chicago University, The MacArthur Memorial Archives, and United States Marine Corps History Division, and obtained roughly 1,670 photos.
