Exhibition Overview

To supplement and enhance the understanding of the special exhibition currently being held at the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims (“Akatsuki Corps in the Face of Apocalyptic Fires: Hiroshima and the Child Soldiers of the Suicide Attack Squad”), related materials from the collection of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum will be displayed.

 

1. Outline
The Akatsuki Corps carried out bold relief and rescue activities in Hiroshima immediately after the bombing. Most of the members would become the earliest victims of radiation exposure upon entering the city, and at the same time, they carried out their grueling missions under the most dire circumstances.
This exhibition conveys the inhumanity of nuclear weapons through the horrific reality of the atomic bombing as witnessed by the Akatsuki Corps.

Approximately 68 items: 28 photos (14 displayed on photo panels and 14 on video monitors), 15 drawings by atomic bomb survivors, and 25 artifacts.
