2-2-8-1Belongings of a victim at the time of the atomic bombing or Trousers

900 m from the hypocenter Koami-cho Donated by Masumi Segawa

Seiji Segawa (then 13), a first-year student at Hiroshima Municipal Junior High School, was exposed to the atomic bombing while demolishing buildings as a mobilized student. His mother, Ayame, searched for Seiji throughout the city together with Seiji’s younger brother Masumi and others. On August 8, learning that Seiji had been taken in at Takasu Elementary School in the suburbs, Ayame rushed to the site. Ayame found her son, using a familiar pair of shoes as a clue among a roomful of severely injured victims. Seiji's face was severely burned beyond recognition, but they identified him when Seiji responded to Ayame’s call by opening his eyes. They brought him home and desperately cared for him, but he died on August 11.
These items on display are what he had with him on the day of the bombing.
