3-2-5-1Tame and Yoshikazu at a meeting of the Mushroom Club
Tame Okada gave birth to her son Yoshikazu in February 1946. When Yoshikazu started nursery school, his parents learned that he was mentally disabled. Yoshikazu was unable to keep up with his class in elementary school.
Tame’s husband Kazuichi worked successfully to get both Yoshikazu's elementary and junior high schools to open classrooms for children with special needs. But then, Kazuichi fell ill and died. Shortly thereafter, their haberdashery store burned down in a fire that started in a neighboring house.
Though constantly plagued by A-bomb-related disorders, Tame rebuilt the store and raised Yoshikazu.
