6-3-3-3 Preservation of the A-bomb Dome

The name “A-bomb Dome” emerged in the early 1950s. Many Hiroshima residents wanted these ruins removed, saying it reminded them of that nightmare. In 1966, after persistent calls from the junior and high school students of the Hiroshima Paper Crane Club, the Hiroshima City Council decided unanimously to preserve the A-bomb Dome in perpetuity. The call went out for donations to preserve the dome; in 1967, the response to this call funded the first preservation construction project.
