In Closing

Since the end of the War, A-bomb survivors (hibakusha) have lived with horrible memories that ‘only those who have experienced it can understand.’ They have also lived with anxiety for their health, and many have had to overcome great pain and the sorrow of prejudice and discrimination. The strong desire of the hibakusha that ‘no one else should ever suffer as we did’ developed through their experience of standing up to adversity. Although the number of hibakusha testimonies here is small, we hope that these glimpses into the lives of these individuals and the feelings of their families have given you an enhanced sense of what it means to ‘Live.’
