Introduction
What kinds of atrocities did the atomic bombing inflict on people? It is estimated that by the end of 1945, the year in which the atomic bombs were dropped, approximately 140,000 people in Hiroshima, and 70,000 people in Nagasaki, died because of the bombs. The Registers of the Names of the Fallen Atomic Bomb Victims of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki contain the names of roughly 420,000 people, with more than 200,000 A-bomb survivors living today.
In this special exhibition we will introduce more than ten groups of people and their families. We will help you see how they lived their lives, using A-bomb objects and articles left by the deceased, as well as memoirs and drawings by survivors. By focusing on the life stories of A-bomb survivors, we hope to help you understand the horror of A-bomb damage, and contemplate once again what it means to be alive.
