At Fujikawa Steel Works, which was located in Ozu-machi (now, Ozu, Minami-ku), screw propellers of warships and other related products were manufactured. In another arsenal in Fuchu-cho, Aki-gun, approximately 600 students mobilized from Hiroshima Prefecture Matsumoto Industrial School (now, Hiroshima Prefecture Setouchi High School) were working in addition to the arsenal workers.

On August 6, 1945, approximately 120 members of the Fujikawa Steel Works Volunteer Citizen Corps were dispatched for building demolition in the Prefectural Government Office area (now, Kako-machi, Naka-ku) only to be annihilated.

Choichi Fujikawa, the president at the time of the bombing, built a memorial tower in the following year in memory of his workers, and constructed Kyuzoji Temple in order to implement Buddhist memorial services.

Two large arsenals were located in Gion-cho, Asa-gun (now, Gion District, Asaminami-ku, Hiroshima City). At one of those arsenals, Yutani Heavy Industries, Ltd., workers including more than 400 mobilized students manufactured bombs and other ammunition.

On July 25, 1945, approximately 1,100 members of the Yutani Heavy Industries Volunteer Citizen Corps were organized. In the beginning of August, the Corps received a dispatch order to carry out building demolition works in the Prefectural Government Office area (now, Kako-machi, Naka-ku) approximately 850 meters from the hypocenter. By August 5, of the 20 buildings assigned to the Corps, 19 had been demolished, leaving only the 20th building for the next day due to the convenience of the residents. On August 6, approximately all of the 160 volunteer corps members, who had been mobilized to demolish only one building, died in the bombing.

This is a container for documents related to deceased A-bomb victims, which was kept in a monument for volunteer citizen corps, established in 1962 on the site of Yutani Heavy Industries, Ltd. Documents related to workers and mobilized students during the war and records of damage done by the A-bombing were organized in this file. The file is currently kept in the office building.
