Moto-machi

Canna blooming in the rubble Approx. 820m from the hypocenter, Moto-machi Even in the burned plain, roots of plants and trees were still alive. This canna sprouted and bloomed in the burned ruins near the Artillery First Reserve of the Chugoku Regional Military Headquarters. Stone lantern at Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine Approx. 370m from the hypocenter, Moto-machi The fire plate on top of the lantern was blown off, and just as the blast lifted the upper foundation stone, a branch from a tree blew in and was trapped under it. 54 55 The stone torii gate in front of Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine Approx. 350m from the hypocenter, Moto-machi In 1956, the shrine was moved onto the grounds of the rebuilt Hiroshima Castle and Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium was built where the shrine had been. One of these broken footings, was discovered in 1971 during a sewerage construction project. It was moved approximately 20 meters south from where it was found and is preserved on the north side of the Hiroshima Youth Center.
