Conclusion |
In one blinding instant,
the city was destroyed, yet relief activities began immediately after the atomic bombing. These activities saved countless lives and gave many the courage to rebuild their lives. Hiroshima continues to develop tall buildings line the streets, and our roads are filled with pedestrians and vehicles. Traces of the relief activities carried out after the bombing are hard to find. However, survivors of the atomic bombing continue to live in fear for their health and the sorrow of losing family members never fades away. Those who provided aid saw ghastly scenes they will never forget. The atomic bombing left them with despair and grief that will never heal completely. Thousands of nuclear weapons remain on Earth. Our planet is imperiled by the possibility of more suffering that, like Hiroshima's, will never end. When will we rid the world of nuclear weapons? What must we do? Let us all think carefully about these questions. |
