3-1-3-1Mirror cover

2,200 m from the hypocenter Yoshijima-hon-machi Donated by Shigeo Ito

Yuki Ito (then 17) was exposed to the bombing at home. She was pierced in her chest by a

mirror fragment shattered by the blast. She was blown into the courtyard, where her family found her dead pressing this fabric mirror cover onto her chest. Yuki embroidered this mirror

cover as her school assignment. Yuki’s bloodstain remains on the bottom part of the cover.

Words from Shigeo, Yuki’s younger brother:

My sister was working on her embroideries every day at home. I knew how persistently she worked, so I could never bring myself to throw it away. That’s why I have kept it to this day. My sister didn’t like to study so much, but she devoted herself to handcrafting.
