Early winter in 1954, Sadako found her neck swollen and felt lethargic.
Several tests confirmed that she had leukemia. Sadako’s parents decided not to tell her the truth. Wanting to give her a happy memory, they made a fancy kimono for her. On February 21, Sadako was admitted to the hospital.
