6-2-3-3A-bomb Survivor Groups
Around 1952, Hiroshima A-bomb survivors began forming groups to seek medical treatment for A-bomb-related illnesses and other assistance. In May of 1956, several A-bomb survivor groups came together to discuss such topics as national compensation for A-bomb damages. They formed the Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A-bomb Sufferers Organization. Then, in August of 1956, the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) was formed to support A-bomb survivors throughout Japan. Although A-bomb survivors were organizing effectively, many A-bomb survivors would not name themselves survivors out of fear of discrimination.
