Immediately after the bombing, work began on restoring military facilities, particularly communication and transportation. Restoration of urban infrastructure – roads, railroads, and electricity – was also a high priority. When the war ended, the Japanese military was no longer in a position to lead the restoration. However, aid from the region continued to help Hiroshima recover.
