Many Japanese had left home during the war, but when the war ended, they came back. Japanese soldiers who had gone to war and civilians who had settled in Manchuria returned to Hiroshima. Children who had been evacuated returned to their families in the city.
Meanwhile, soldiers stationed in Hiroshima were demobilized and returned to their respective homes. Many Koreans who had been living in Hiroshima for various reasons returned to their home country.
